Accelerated Couples Program

Accelerated Couples Program

Focused support for couples who feel stuck, disconnected, or caught in the same painful cycle.

When weekly couples therapy feels too slow, a focused intensive may help you and your partner move forward with greater clarity and direction. The Accelerated Couples Program at Counsel RVA provides a structured, individualized relationship experience designed to help couples better understand their patterns, strengthen communication, rebuild connection, and create a practical path forward.

  • In-Person or Virtual
  • Private Pay Program
  • Includes Couples Assessment
  • Designed for Dating, Engaged, & Married Couples

You Love Each Other. But Something Keeps Getting in the Way.

You may care deeply about your relationship, but still feel stuck in the same arguments, the same misunderstandings, or the same emotional distance.
Maybe one of you pursues while the other shuts down. Maybe small conversations turn into major conflict. Maybe resentment has built up over time. Maybe trust has been damaged. Maybe you are not sure how things got this hard, but you know you do not want to keep repeating the same cycle.
Traditional weekly couples therapy can be incredibly helpful. However, when a relationship is under strain, one hour per week can sometimes feel too slow, especially when each session is spent trying to explain what happened since the last appointment.
The Accelerated Couples Program was created for couples seeking a more focused and intentional path toward reconnection, repair, and forward movement.

You May Be a Good Fit If…

You feel stuck in repetitive arguments or emotional distance.
You struggle with communication, conflict, trust, intimacy, parenting, finances, or life transitions.
You are both willing to participate honestly, take ownership, and work toward healthier patterns.
You want focused help understanding the cycle that keeps pulling you apart.
You have tried to talk things through, but the conversations often become tense, defensive, or unproductive.
You want a structured alternative to months of weekly therapy.

Why Choose an Intensive?

More Focus

Dedicated time allows you and your partner to step away from everyday distractions and focus directly on your relationship.

More Momentum

Progress is not interrupted by a week between sessions. The intensive format allows us to stay with the conversation long enough to understand patterns, practice new responses, and build meaningful direction.

More Clarity

Many couples know they are struggling but do not fully understand why. The program helps identify the cycle underneath the conflict so both partners can better understand what keeps happening.

More Unique

Every intensive is customized to your relationship history, PREPARE/ENRICH results, strengths, growth areas, and goals.

More Direction

The goal is not to guarantee that everything will be resolved in two days. The goal is to help you make meaningful progress, understand what needs to change, and leave with a clear plan for moving forward.

What Makes This Program Different?

Assessment Before Action

We do not begin intensive couples work until fit, readiness, and safety have been assessed. The assessment process helps determine whether the program is clinically appropriate for your relationship.

Assessment

As part of the assessment stage, each partner completes the relationship assessment. This helps identify relationship strengths, growth areas, communication patterns, conflict dynamics, personality differences, and other important themes that may shape the intensive.

Focused Work

This program is designed specifically for couples who need concentrated help with communication, disconnection, conflict, trust, resentment, life transitions, or relationship decision-making.

Practical Tools

You will work on concrete skills for communication, conflict repair, emotional connection, and relationship maintenance.

Josh Freeman, LPC, ACS

Josh Freeman is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Approved Clinical Supervisor, and founder of Counsel RVA. He works with individuals and couples navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship distress, life transitions, and painful patterns that continue to affect connection and daily life.

Drawing from training in couples counseling, PREPARE/ENRICH, EMDR, CBT, ACT, and evidence-based relational approaches, Josh serves as the clinical lead for the Accelerated Couples Program. His goal is to help couples better understand their patterns, communicate with more clarity, and move forward with greater intentionality.

Relationships rarely improve because couples simply “try harder.” They improve when couples learn to understand the cycle, respond differently, repair more quickly, and build patterns that support connection.

Program pricing may vary based on the complexity of treatment needs and the specific services included in your individualized program.

Can I use insurance or receive reimbursment?

The Accelerated Program is a private-pay service and is not billed directly to insurance. Upon request, Counsel RVA can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance carrier for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement is determined by your individual insurance plan and is not guaranteed.

Why private pay?

Intensive treatment is highly individualized and often extends beyond what insurance plans typically authorize or reimburse. Private pay allows us to focus on clinical needs rather than insurance limitations, session caps, and authorization requirements.

FAQs

Why choose an accelerated program instead of weekly therapy?

Traditional weekly therapy can be highly effective. An intensive is designed for those seeking a more focused treatment experience that allows for deeper exploration, greater continuity, and concentrated time dedicated to healing. The goal is not to replace therapy, but to create meaningful progress through intentional and individualized care.

Will our relationship be fixed after two days?

No ethical therapist can guarantee outcomes. The goal of this program is not to promise a perfect relationship after two days. The goal is to create meaningful progress, help you understand your relationship patterns, practice healthier responses, and leave with a clearer plan for moving forward.

Do we have to be married?

No. The program may be appropriate for dating, engaged, premarital, married, or long-term committed couples.

What if we are not sure whether we want to stay together?

The program may still be appropriate if both partners are willing to participate honestly and explore the relationship in good faith. However, if one partner has already decided to leave and is only attending to convince the other partner to accept that decision, another service may be more appropriate.

What if there has been betrayal or broken trust?

The program may help couples begin addressing trust injuries, but not every betrayal situation is appropriate for an intensive format. The assessment process will help determine whether the program is the right fit or whether another approach is recommended first.

Can I participate virtually?

Yes. The program may be completed virtually when clinically appropriate and when licensure requirements allow. During your consultation, we will determine whether a virtual or in-person format is the best fit for your needs.

What if we already have a therapist?

Many clients continue working with their current therapist before and after the intensive. With your written permission, we can coordinate care to support continuity and help maximize the benefits of treatment.

How do we know if we're a good fit?

The first step is a consultation. We will discuss your goals, history, and current concerns to determine whether the Accelerated Program is appropriate for your unique situation.

What if we are not ready for the program?

Not every couple is ready for intensive couples work, and that is okay. Readiness and fit are carefully evaluated during the assessment process. If additional preparation, stabilization, individual therapy, weekly couples therapy, or another service is recommended, we will discuss those options with you.

Is this covered by insurance?

The Accelerated Program is a private-pay service and is not billed directly to insurance. Upon request, we can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance carrier for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
